How we rank studios

Updated September 2026 · the method, the limits, and what we refuse to do

Short version: we read the actual words in real Google reviews and look for evidence of the thing you asked for. Studios cannot pay to rank higher. There is no advertising, no sponsored placement, and no hand-adjusting the order. If the reviews do not support a need, we say so rather than pretending.

Why star ratings are close to useless here

Nearly every Pilates studio is rated between 4.7 and 5.0. The rating tells you a studio is not terrible. It does not tell you whether anyone there has worked with a herniated disc, a second trimester, or someone who has never touched a reformer.

Self-description is not much better. Of the 28 London studios in our researched set, 26 describe themselves as suitable for all levels. When almost everyone claims the same thing, the claim carries no information. Meanwhile only 8 show real evidence of prenatal work and only 7 are physio-led.

So we stopped reading what studios say about themselves, and started reading what their clients say about them.

What actually happens when you search

  1. We find the Pilates studios near the location you give us, through Google.
  2. We pull the text of their recent reviews.
  3. An AI model reads those reviews against your stated need and ranks the studios by how well the evidence fits, writing one line explaining why and quoting what reviewers described.
  4. If the model is slow or unavailable, a simpler on-device reader ranks them instead. You will always get results.

You see results immediately from the on-device pass, and the AI ranking replaces them a few seconds later when it lands.

The rule that overrides everything else

For anything involving pregnancy, injury, surgery or a medical condition, a studio only gets credit when reviewers explicitly describe that kind of work. Being calm, small, friendly or highly rated does not count as evidence of prenatal expertise.

When the evidence is not there, we label it plainly: "no prenatal evidence in reviews". A cautious answer is more useful to someone pregnant or injured than an encouraging guess.

Where this falls short

Worth knowing before you rely on it:

What we refuse to do

No studio can buy a position, and none has. There is no advertising on this site, no sponsored results, no affiliate commission on bookings, and no way to pay to be included or excluded. The order you see is produced automatically from review evidence.

Our disclosure. Pilates Match is built by Curious Brand, a London branding studio that does commercial work for businesses, and that may at some point include a Pilates studio. If that ever happens it changes nothing here: rankings come out of the review evidence automatically and are never adjusted by hand for anyone. We are telling you this unprompted because a recommendation is only worth anything if you know what is behind it.

Run a studio?

If we have mislabelled you, or a ranking looks plainly wrong, email hello@curiousbrand.co.uk and tell us. Corrections are free and always will be. You cannot buy a better position, but you can absolutely get an inaccurate one fixed.

One thing we noticed while building this, in case it is useful: of the 28 London studios we researched, 26 describe themselves as suitable for all levels. Almost nobody says the more specific thing their own reviewers say about them. We write about that sort of problem over at Curious Brand, which is the branding studio behind this site.
